Lithium-Powered Electric Car

The first production electric car on the UK market with the option of a lithium power supply. The car is said to provide almost twice the range of other small electric cars at 70 miles. Lithium-ion batteries are more commonly found in laptops and mobile phones. They offer higher performance, but have yet to become commonplace due to cooling and battery life problems.

The car combines Italian styling and design, Japanese engineering and British electronics, and will be available in lead-battery and lighter, longer-lasting lithium-battery versions, the latter offering a maximum speed of 45 mph. the lead-acid battery offers a 40-mile range and a maximum 40 mph.

The Elettrica is priced at £9,950 for the lead-battery powered version and at £12,750 for the lithium powered version.

Proton X70 SUV open for booking

Proton Holdings Bhd will open bookings for its new sports utility vehicle from tomorrow. The new SUV, which has been named using a new alphanumeric naming convention as the X70 is available for booking for RM1000. The X70 was unveiled to the media at a special media preview held today at the Proton Styling Studio at the Proton Centre of Excellence. Present at the event was Proton chief executive officer Dr Li Chunrong, deputy chief executive officer Datuk Radzaif Mohamed as well as other senior management members. While there are few changes to the external lines to differentiate the Proton SUV from its Geely counterpart, Proton has incorporated a few uniquely Malaysian design touches to the X70.
